My fourth child – a.k.a. I used to have a blog

No!  Not that! (Catch your breath, mom.)

This “baby” :

TVS

Can’t help but laugh at the comment a fellow mom made to me when I first told her what we were doing: “I’m just so impressed you guys have the time to devote to this!”

Time?  Ha!

On my bad days I feel like every other aspect of my life is suffering for its creation; on my good days I think it may well be what saves us.  And somewhere in the middle is still pretty damn exciting.  (I’m a parent, after all, and quite accustomed to the whole heavy up-front investment, hopeful long-term benefit thing.)

But still, the blog falls to the wayside in my attempt to retain at least some balance (that is, feed the boys something other than cereal for dinner).  Also, Mark is now taking photos to accompany his stories (Have I mentioned how much he’s  kicking ass in the freelance writing world? See here, here, here, and here, but don’t tell him I showed you!) and I’m often camera-less. Have I mentioned that there are still three people in this family who can’t make their own cereal?

There is more to do than there is time to do, as is always the case, I suppose.  The trick is determining which of the things to leave out, and which to leave in.

Folding laundry?  Not a priority (though Mark disagrees).  Teaching Henry to read, helping Morgan water the garden, allowing the messy process of Max learning to feed himself, sitting on the front steps with Mark after the littles are *finally* asleep, enjoying the cooler air and planning a road trip to Idaho for later this summer?  Priorities, all.  Also, romping with cousins, barbecuing with the folks,  meeting new friends and catching up with old ones.

And working to start this school.

More later…
